Garlic Naan (without tandoor)

Garlic Naan - This is a Indian flatbread which is soft and delicious. I always thought naan is difficult to make at home especially without tandoor. But then I saw lots of recipes describing the recipe, and I thought of trying. It came out very well.

Ingredients

All purpose flour - 2 cups

Yogurt - 2 tbsp

Milk - 1/2 cup

Dry yeast - 1 tbsp

Warm water - 1/4 cup

Sugar - 1 tsp

Butter - as needed

Garlic - 10 to 15 cloves finely chopped

Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp finely chopped

Method

First we have to activate the yeast. Take some warm water and dissolve sugar in it. To this add the dry yeast. Mix well. It will form a foam. The yeast is active.

In a wife mouthed bowl take all purpose flour. Add the activated yeast to it. Add the yogurt and salt. Mix well. Knead it using milk, so that the naan is soft. The dough should be same like the chapati dough.

Keep it in an air tight container coated with oil for about 1 to 2 hours so that the dough should rise.

Once it is rised well, knead it again. Make small balls from the dough. Roll it into a oval shape dusting it with all purpose flour.

Wet one side of this by oil or water and sprinkle the chopped garlic and coriander leaves.

Take a skillet (tawa) and heat it. Once it is completely hot put the raw naan and cook it on each side. Add ghee or butter on both sides. The naan has to be flipped when there is bubbles formed.

If you want you can cook the naan on direct flame as well. Brush the naan with butter and serve hot.
