Bajil uppugari (Avalakki uppugari)

Bajil uppugari (avalakki oggarane)
This is the most simple and famous tea time snack in Mangalore, Udupi region.
Paper avalakki (beaten rice) - 2 çups ( the avalakki should be very thin variety)
Grated coconut - 1 cup
Green chilli - 4 - 5 no (depends on the spice levels)
Cumin seeds - 3 - 4 tsp
Sugar - 1/2 - 1 tsp (optional)
Salt - for taste
Sambar/rasam powder - 1/4 tsp

For tempering/ seasoning
Oil
Mustard seeds
Chana dal
Urad dal.

Method
 Take the avalakki in a big bowl. Add the grated coconut. Crush the green chilli and cumin seeds using mortar and pestle and add it to the mix. (Remember crushing it adds to the taste of your uppugari).
Add salt accordingly to taste. Also add the sugar and the sambar powder
Take a kadai for seasoning/ tempering. Add oil, mustard seeds. Once they pop, add chana dal and urad dal. Fry them till golden brown. Add this to the bowl containing the avalakki mix. Mix well.

In the costal part of Karnataka, this is usually served as breakfast along with uppittu (upma)
People like to eat it by adding a little curds or sometimes tea.
