Raw Mango rasam (Maavinakayi saaru)

Raw mango rasam (Maavinakayi saaru) - Here is a quick recipe of rasam which is tangy and delicious. It is made using raw mango and is best served with hot rice, ghee and papad.
Ingredients
Raw mango - 1 medium
Toor dal - 1/4 th cup
Green chilli - 2 slit lengthwise
Ginger - 1 inch finely chopped
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 2 tsp
Jeera (cumin) powder - 1 tsp
Jaggery - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Black pepper powder - 1 tsp freshly ground
Coriander leaves - 2 tsp finely chopped
Curry leaves - 2 tsp finely chopped
Asofoetida a pinch
Salt for taste
Method
In a pressure cooker boil the whole mango and the toor dal with turmeric powder for 2 whistles. Remove the skin of the mango and deseed it. Mash the mango and keep it aside.
Take a kadai with ghee. Add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter. Add the green chilli, ginger and Curry leaves and saute it for a minute. Add the mashed mango pulp. Also add coriander powder,cumin powder,black pepper powder and jaggery. Add the boiled dal and water as necessary. Also add salt for taste. Allow it to boil for 10 minutes. When there is froth formed, the rasam is done. Add the asofoetida and remove it from heat. Add the coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
