Masala Chai

Masala Chai - Who doesn't like a hot cup of tea during monsoons. The addition of different spices adds a different taste and flavor to the usual chai. It also has health benefits.
I like tea with more water than milk. Some people like it with more milk. You can adjust the ratio as you want. I use tea powder which is in form of granules. Some use dried tea leaves also.
Ingredients (makes 2 cups of tea)
Tea powder - 2 tbsp
Water - 2 cups
Milk - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 1 tsp
Spices - (to be powdered using mortar and pestle)
Cinnamon - 1/2 inch
Cardamom - 3
Cloves - 2
Ginger - 1 inch
Black pepper - 3
Method
Boil 2 cups of water in a small sauce pan. When the water boils, add the tea powder. When it boils, close the pan and simmer the heat. In a mortar take all the spice except ginger and powder it. Add ginger at last and crush coarsely. Add this to the sauce pan. Now add the milk and sugar.
Pour it using a tea strainer into a cup.
Serve hot with biscuits or onion bajji
