Nellikayi tambli

Nellikai tambli (amla tambli/gooseberry tambli)
Tambli is a delicacy of South canara and udupi. They prepare tambli of almost all soppu (greens) grown just like that in roads. It is served with rice. Gooseberry are rich source of Vitamin C and very good for health. Today I'm posting the recipe for amla tambli.
Ingredients
Nellikai - 2 to 3
Grated coconut - 4 - 5 tsp
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Green chilli - 2
Buttermilk - 1/4 cup
Salt - for taste
For the oggarane (seasoning)
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Chana dal - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli broken - 1 no
Method
Cut the amla and remove it's seed. In a mixie take this cut gooseberry, grated coconut, jeera powder and green chillies. Grind it by adding water till it becomes fine paste. Transfer it into a wide mouthed bowl and add the buttermilk. Add salt
Oggarane (seasoning)
Take a small pan with oil. Heat it. Add mustard seeds, red chilli and chana dal. Heat it till the mustard seeds splutter. Add this seasoning to the tambli.
Tambli is ready to be served with hot steamed rice.
