Coconut chutney

This is a simple coconut chutney for idli, dosa etc.

Green chutney for sandwich

Ingredients
For blending
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Roasted chana dal (putani/ hurigadale) - 5 tbsp
Green chilli - 2 to 3
Tamarind extract - 2 to 3 tbsp
Salt - for taste
Asofoetida - a pinch
For seasoning
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Red chilli - 2
Method
Take all the ingredients under For blending in a blender. Add about 1/4 cup of eawat. Blend it. It should be a smooth paste like consistency. Add more water if required. Keep it in a bowl.
Take a small seasoning kadai with coconut oil. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Add broken red chilli and roast. Remove from heat and add it to the blended mix.
Serve with idli, dosa or appam.
1. Coconut chutney spoils fast. So is immediately or keep under refrigeration.
2. While blending, don't add too much water as you won't get the smooth consistency. If you like watery chutney, you can add water after blending.
3. Some people do not add tamarind, the taste being almost same
