Cherupayar (green gram) kari

Cherupayar Kari - Cherupayar means green gram. This curry is very famous in Kerala especially Kozhikode. There it is made as side dish for appam or puttu or even poori for breakfast. I learnt this recepe from my chechi (a nanny who would take care of my son)
Ingredients
Sprouted green gram - 1 cup
Green chilli - 3
Coconut - grated 5 tbsp
Garlic cloves - 4
Cumin - 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt for taste
Method
Pressure cook the cherupayar (green gram) with appropriate amount of water. The green gram should be slightly mashed up. In a blender take coconut, 2 cut green chillies, cumin and garlic cloves.
In a kadai take a tsp of coconut oil and add mustard seeds. When they splutter add the boiled green gram along with water. Split a green chilli lengthwise and add it to the vessel. Add salt for taste. Now add the ground masala and allow it to boil. Serve it with appam or puttu. It's also amazing with poori and chapati.
